David was a small boy. Goliath was a huge giant. Teach your preschoolers how little guys can do big things with the help of God using these Bible lesson ideas.
The ideas below may help you when teaching your preschoolers a lesson about David & Goliath. Feel free to use these ideas to supplement your current curriculum or to make your own lesson.
1 Samuel 17:1-58
Directions: Draw a large tic-tac-toe grid on a sheet of poster board. Place it on the floor and mark a line behind which the children must stand. Each player is given five beanbags to toss. The children must land three in a row to receive points or a prize.
Directions: Bring in objects that are big and small in like categories, such as blocks, fruits, cut out shapes, etc. Divide the children into pairs and have them work on sorting their objects into a pile of big objects and a pile of small objects. Walk around the room and observe if they are understanding the concept correctly.
A good snack for this lesson would be:
Allergy Alert: Snack contains peanut butter!
Directions: Cut bananas in half. Give each child a half of a banana. Have them stick the pretzels on either side to make arms and legs. Let them use peanut butter as glue to hold raisins in place for eyes. Cut strawberries into a triangle shape for a helmet. Eat and enjoy!
Another good snack idea for this lesson would be:
Directions: Shape cookie dough into "Y" shapes to look like a sling shot and bake. Have the children place a red Twizzler string between the sling shot. Serve malted milk balls as stones.
Teach children to sing "Only a Little Boy David." The lyrics are:
Only a little boy David, Only a babbling brook.
Only a little boy David, and five little stones he took.
Only a boy named David, Only a little sling,
Only a boy named David, but he could pray and sing...
One little stone went into the sling, and the sling went round and round. One little stone went into the sling, and the sling went round and round.
Round and round, and round, and round, and round, and round, and round. One little stone went up, up, up, and the giant came tumbling down.
Optional: Give each child a bag (pouch) to hold their stones.
Suggested Prayer (or use your own)
Dear God, I may be little and yet to grow, but You love me, this I know. Help me be a shining light, helping others do what's right. In Jesus' name, Amen.
