Use these ideas to teach your preschoolers that God gives us food, water, clothes, and homes. Included are craft and activity suggestions.

The ideas below may help you teach your preschoolers that God is good and provides all the things we need to live. Feel free to use these ideas to supplement your current curriculum or to make your own lesson.

Story Suggestion

  • Matthew 6:25-34 - Do Not Worry

Game Ideas

Fruit Find

Directions: Hide different fruits around the classroom before the children enter. Make sure you have one piece of fruit for each child to find. After going through your lesson about how God provides things for us, like food, tell the children that you have fruit hiding around the room. Let each child find a piece of fruit. Once they find a piece, let them place it in a basket or bowl on a table. Tell them that they can only find one piece and then sit down. Once all the fruit is found, have the children look at full the basket (bowl) is.

Whose Shoes Who?

Directions: Have your children sit in a circle and take off one shoe. While the children hide their eyes, hide all of the shoes in not too hard to find places around the room. The children must find a shoe that does not belong to them and bring it back to the circle. When all the shoes have been found, ask a child whose shoe he found. The child then looks around the circle to determine who is wearing a shoe that matches the one he found. When he finds the owner, he returns the shoe, and that child now must find the owner of the shoe she has found.

Snacks

A good snack idea for this lesson could be a simple fruit tray with different dips.

Another snack idea could be to make houses out of graham crackers, icing (the glue), and small candies as house ornaments.

Art Center Ideas

Wacky Hats

Materials:

  • Paper plates
  • Construction paper (various colors)
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Decorative items (sequins, streamers, artificial flowers, etc.)

Directions:

Preparation: Cut a 3 inch slit in each paper plate straight across the center of the plate. Use that slit to cut a complete circle out of the center of the plate. It should fit the children like a head band.

  1. Have the children cut out shapes from the construction paper to glue around their "hat."
  2. Let them decorate their hat with the decorative items to make a wacky hat.
  3. Let the children wear their wacky hats and have a parade!

Glue Gallery Pictures

Materials:

  • Poster board
  • Glue
  • Different seeds of varying shapes and sizes
  • Corn kernels
  • Thin twigs

Directions:

  1. Give each child a piece of poster board (cut to the size you prefer). Let them make an outdoor design (like a house, a tree, bushes, etc.) with glue.
  2. Once they have their pattern, let them decorate it with the seeds, corn, and twigs. The twigs would be good for the house structure and trees. The corn would make a good sun. Let dry.

Suggested Prayer (or use your own)

God you give us all we need. The plants, the trees, and their seeds. Thank you, God, for all that's good. Help me do the things I should.
