Story Suggestions

Game Ideas

I See Someone

Instructions: Gather children in a circle. The teacher stands in the center to start the game. Begin by saying, "I see someone with brown shoes." Anyone who thinks the teacher is talking about her may say, "You see me." If she is right, she goes to the center and says, "I see someone..." If no one guesses right, give another hint. If a child doesn't wish to be in the center, casually pick someone else to take his place. The teacher can help by whispering hints to the child in the center, if needed. You can set a time limit on this game for however long you like.

Simon Says

Instructions: Everyone stands in a line. Players have to do the actions named only when the leader says, "Simon Says." For instance, if the leader says, "Simon Says, touch your toes," then all players should touch their toes. But, if the leader says, "Touch your toes," and someone does it, they are out of that round of the game. Some ideas to use may include:

  1. Shake hands with a friend.
  2. Smile at a friend.
  3. Turn around once.
  4. Touch your head.
  5. Pretend to sweep the floor.

You can even get creative and come up with your own versions of this game!

Snacks

A good snack for this lesson would be people-shaped cookies that you can make with a gingerbread man or person-shaped cookie cutter. You can use M&Ms and Twizzlers for eyes and a mouth.

Another option could be to give the kids fruits and vegetables cut into face shapes (lips, eyes, etc.). Have them create a self-portrait and then eat their snack.

Art Center Ideas

Mirror Picture Frames

Materials:

Directions:

Preparation: Write, "God Made Me Special" at the bottom of each picture frame with a marker.

  1. Give each child a cardboard picture frame and let them decorate it with crayons and/or stickers.
  2. Give each child a piece of aluminum foil that is cut fit through the window of the picture frame. Be sure to make the piece of aluminum foil a little bigger than the window and use tape to secure the aluminum foil in place.
  3. Now let the children look at themselves in the picture and remind them that "God Made Me Special," their memory verse.

Potato Heads

Materials:

Directions:

  1. Supply students with some Play-Doh to make a nose, a mouth, and ears (you may have to show them examples). Pieces of felt can be used to make the face pieces, as well, such as a mustache, hair, etc.
  2. Use short lengths of toothpicks (adult to cut them in half) to affix the Play-Doh, paper, and felt to the potato.
  3. Students can accent girl potato heads with ribbons.

Suggested Prayer (or do your own)

Thank you, God for what you made. Thank you for the plants and trees. Thank you, God for all the birds. Thank you, God for making ME!
