Hannah trusted that God would give her a child. Teach your preschoolers how to trust God more through fun games and crafts with these lesson ideas.
The story of Hannah is rich in learning possibilities for preschoolers. Encourage children to put their trust in God, while helping them develop faith and character with these great ideas for Sunday School. The ideas below may help you when teaching a lesson about how God answered Hannah’s prayers. Feel free to use these ideas to supplement your current curriculum or to make your own lesson. Story SuggestionTell the children that Hannah was a woman who lived a long time ago. What she wanted more than anything was to have a baby. Hannah knew that God could work miracles, and she had faith in Him. So she went into the church to pray to God, to ask Him for a baby. Read 1 Samuel 1:10, 1:13, 1:15, and 1:20. Game IdeasUse these games to help reinforce the lessons learned in the story of Hannah. Going to Church ~ Version 1Directions: Mark six lines on the floor with masking tape. The first will represent the “Start” and the last “Church” (the finish line). Children will move as a group from the first line to the church by answering simple questions about the story. Have children line up on the first line. Tell them that you will ask them a question about the story, and every time they get a right answer they can move one step closer to the “Church.” When they get to the church, they “win” because they are in the right place! Some ideas for simple questions might be:
Going to Church ~ Version 2Directions: If you have limited space in your Sunday School room, you can play the game above by using a sheet of poster board on which you have drawn 6 large boxes (the first represents “Start” and the last “Church.”) Give each child a marker and miniature Bible characters are great if you have them. Play at the table, as you would a board game. SnacksA good snack for this lesson would be: Church SticksServe Pretzel sticks and mini marshmallows. Show children how to make a “church” using the pretzel sticks. You can build a church with these by sticking pretzel sticks into marshmallows; connect the pieces to build the church. Another good snack for this lesson would be: Squares and TrianglesServe pieces of cheese, lunchmeat, and crackers that are shaped either as a triangle or a square. Have different colors and sizes of squares and triangles, and show children how to use them to make a “church” they can eat. Art Center IdeasPraying HandsMaterials:

Paper Church with WindowsMaterials:
Directions: Children glue their shapes onto the poster board, using squares and triangles to make a church shape. Children may glue the “people” to the church, and then use small squares to make windows and doors, gluing only one side of the square to the “church” structure so windows and doors will open, revealing the “people” inside. Suggested Prayer (or use your own) God, I learn to trust you more the bigger that I am. Please help me to remember that you are my dearest friend. I love you more with each passing day, and God I want you to know. I want your light inside of me to grow, and grow, and grow. Amen.
