Jeremiah preached God's word to people who were harsh to him. He was found faithful in God's eyes. Use these ideas to teach your preschoolers about him.
The ideas below may help you when teaching your preschoolers a lesson about Jeremiah and how he obeyed God, even in times of danger. Feel free to use these ideas to supplement your current curriculum or to make your own lesson.
Story Suggestion
The Book of Jeremiah
Game Idea
Follow the Arrows
Directions: Prepare arrows that you can construct from cardboard, so that they point in opposite directions. Place a sign that reads "Jeremiah" on one wall and another sign that reads "Israelites" on the opposite wall. Read a part of the Book of Jeremiah to the kids (or re-phrase it into words preschoolers can understand better). Have a volunteer come up and hold one of the arrows that points to whom you were speaking about. For instance, you may read: "You are my Lord and King," I said. "I don't know how to speak. I'm only a child." (Jeremiah 1:6 - NIrV) Which sign should the arrow point to? Jeremiah, of course! Come up with at least five or six passages to read, or as many children you have in your class so everyone gets a turn.
Snacks
A good snack for this lesson would be:
Jeremiah in a Cistern Crackers
Ingredients:
Graham crackers
Bananas, sliced into 1/2 inch chips
Peanut butter
Wheat germ
Chocolate sprinkles
Directions:
Have the children place two banana chips on a 1/4 square of a graham cracker.
Let them spread peanut butter on top of the bananas and sprinkle with wheat germ and chocolate sprinkles.
Another good snack idea for this lesson would be:
Walking in the Mud Snacks
Ingredients:
Teddy Graham crackers
Peanut butter
Golden syrup
Directions:
Mix together the peanut butter and syrup.
Give each child some Teddy Grahams (to actually represent people) and a spoonful of "mud."
Let them take their bears on a walk through the mud and then gobble them up.
Art Center Ideas
House of Cups
Materials:
Decorative paper cups (bathroom cups usually have decorations on them)
Glue sticks
Paper plates
Directions:
Demonstrate to the children how they can build a temple with the paper cups by turning the cups right-side-up and upside down to create buildings.
Let the children build their own temples and use glue sticks to keep their temple together. See how high they can build. Use paper plates for the children to build on so it will be easy for them to carry their temple home.
Clay Jar Craft
Materials:
Air drying clay in natural colors (Crayola)
Toothpicks
Directions:
Use air drying clay to create pots, jars, and bowls.
Children can use toothpicks to make pictures on their creations.
The projects will become hard within 24 hours.
Suggested Prayer (or use your own)
Dear Lord, may you find me faithful just like Jeremiah. May I do the things that make you proud of me. Give me strength to do and say the things that make you happy today. In Jesus' name, Amen.
