Mary and Martha had lost their beloved brother, Lazarus. Could the Son of Man raise him from the dead? Teach your preschoolers about Lazarus with these activities.

The ideas below may help you when teaching your preschoolers a lesson about Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. Feel free to use these ideas to supplement your current curriculum or to make your own lesson.

Story Suggestion

John 11:1-44

Game Ideas

Statues

Directions: Play this traditional kids game that is fun for everyone. Play music while all the children move around and dance while the music is playing. When the music stops the children must stand like statues. Anyone who moves is out of the game. Start the music again and repeat as many times as you want.

Linen Wrap Race

Directions: Bring multiple rolls of new toilet paper to class. Divide the children into teams of two. Play music while one team member wraps their partner in toilet paper, trying to cover as much of their body as they can before the music stops. Two teams will compete against each other at a time. When the music stops, whoever has covered their teammate the most wins that round. Play until all of the teams have had a turn, or until all teams have had a chance to switch partners so all of the children can be wrapped in toilet paper.

Snacks

A good snack for this lesson would be:

Fresh Fruit Salad

Directions:

  1. Combine oranges, apples, bananas, pears, peaches, strawberries, grapes into a large bowl.
  2. Cream together one 8-oz. package of softened cream cheese and 2 cups of marshmallow cream in a bowl until well blended.
  3. Add the mixture to the fruit bowl and gently toss the fruit until covered with the mixture.

Another good snack for this lesson would be:

Serve cookies and milk that you can buy from the store.

Art Center Ideas

Celebration Flowers

Materials:

  • Fresh cut flowers from a florist
  • Clear vases
  • Food coloring
  • Water

Directions:

  1. Give each child a vase of their own filled a third of the way with water.
  2. Let each child pick out a color that they want to add to their water, and let them drop in three drops of that color into the water.
  3. Have the children place their flowers into the water. Within 10 to 15 minutes the children should see the flower drinking up the water in the vase and the color they chose appearing through the pedals.

Self Portraits

Materials:

  • Poster board
  • Crayons or waterproof markers
  • Small mirrors
  • String
  • Cut out pieces of fabric
  • Glue sticks

Directions:

  1. Give each child a piece of poster board and a small mirror.
  2. Tell them to use the mirror to make a self portrait (draw them self on the poster board).
  3. Let them add string for their hair, and use fabric pieces for clothes.

Suggested Prayer (or use your own)

Dear Lord, you are so mighty and powerful. Your love is never-ending. Thank you, Lord, for blessing me with family and friends. Help me to live for you. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Thank you!!! I was looking for one more idea to enhance this story. The toilet paper race should be just the thing. I'd like to share with you an idea i use to help my students learn the books of the bible. I write each book's name on a large (20" wide x 5" tall) piece of poster board. Starting with just 10 books, I hide them around the room. The kids have to find them and then lay them out on the floor in order. I add one or two new books each week. We are up to 23 books. God bless you and your sharing work.
