Moses started out in a basket floating down the Nile to becoming a prince in Egypt. Here are some ideas to use when teaching about Moses as a baby.
The ideas below may help you teach a lesson on Moses when he was a baby. Feel free to use these ideas to supplement your current curriculum or to make your own lesson.
Exodus (2:1-10)
Preparation: Make a list of six simple items, such as a plastic spoon, stone, wrapped candy, a block, a blue button, and a ball of string. Fasten one of each item on a peg board or tape them to a whiteboard. Before the children arrive, hide the items in the room, one item for each child. For example, if 10 children are coming to class, hide 10 spoons, 10 pieces of candy, etc. All of the spoons should be in the same place, all of the buttons in the same place, etc.
Directions: Each child must try to get one of each item, but must not tell anyone where any of the things are hidden. Give a small prize to those who are successful in finding all six items within a given amount of time, or if you see a child having a particular hard time gathering all the times, you can play "hot/cold" with them until they earn a prize, too.
Materials: Pillows, blankets and/or sheets, large cardboard boxes, chairs and tables, anything else good to use for an obstacle course
Directions: Collect several items for students to move over, under, around, and through. Set up the items along a course. Start one student at a time at the beginning of the course, and tell them to try to make it all the way to the end.
A good snack for this lesson would be Moses in a Basket. You will need to make this before class.
A simpler snack idea is to make strawberry shortcakes using the ready made sponge cakes, drop in some strawberry pie filling in each one, top with a strawberry, and some whipped cream.
Preparation: Draw the faces on the clothespins before class, so Moses is ready to be placed in the basket.
Thank you God for protecting me. Keeping me safe and sound. Help me now to go tell others of Your precious love I found. Amen.
