The Ten Commandments are rules that God gave the Israelites in the Old Testament. Help your preschoolers understand what these commandments mean.
The ideas below may help you teach a lesson on The Ten Commandments. Feel free to use these ideas to supplement your current curriculum or to make your own lesson. Story SuggestionExodus 20:1-17 Game IdeasMonkey See, Monkey DoDirections: Have the children touch various parts of their bodies as you call out the action or demonstrate it. Include such motions as hand to back, heel to knee, elbows to ribs. Ask, "What can your hands do? What can your head do? Your feet, arms, and legs?" (They can open, shut, bend, clap, wiggle, nod, wave). Ten Commandments Number GameDirections: Use the printout sheets below for this game. Print out both sheets and laminate them. Hang the scroll on a wall where children can reach it easily. Cut out the ten numbered commandments and place tape to the back of each one. Have the children answer simple questions about the Ten Commandments. Sample questions might include:
When a child answers correctly, let them tape a commandment to the scroll until all ten commandments are there. SnacksManna CookiesIngredients:
Directions: Cream butter and sugar; add eggs and mix well. Add honey and vanilla. Add flour slowly. Drop by half teaspoon on cookie sheet then bake at 400 degrees for 8 minutes or until done. Preparation: Cut two stone tablet shapes out of the grocery bag. Glue around the outside edge of the tablet, leaving the bottom open, and press the two tablets together. Let this dry with something heavy sitting on top to avoid getting wrinkles in the paper. Directions:
