Timothy was like a son to Paul, and considered a great missionary. Teach your preschoolers about Timothy with these Bible lesson ideas and activities.

The ideas below may help you when teaching a lesson about Timothy. Feel free to use these ideas to supplement your current curriculum or to make your own lesson.

Story Suggestion

2 Timothy 1:1-7, 3:10-17: Timothy had grandparents that took the time to teach him about Jesus. This lesson will allow the children to thank those who have done the same for them.

Game Ideas

Bible Lesson Relay

Directions: Write down the Bible lesson for the day, one word on a separate index card (e.g., God gave me loved ones that love me and teach me about Jesus). Have one clothespin per index card and a long piece of string. Have two children hold the string on each end and give the other children the index cards and clothespins. Time them to see how long it takes them to pin the Bible lesson in order on the string.

Bible BINGO

Directions: Make simple customized BINGO cards with BIBLE written across the top instead of BINGO. Play the game as you normally would.

Snacks

A good snack for this lesson would be:

Thank You Tea

If you have time, have a small “tea” for the children and their loved ones that bring them to church. Serve flavored tea (or punch), small finger sandwiches and cookies. The children can even prepare the cookies and sandwiches and take them home with them to serve at home.

Another good snack for this lesson would be:

Graham Crackers & Frosting: Kids love to make and share their edible creations. Give them graham crackers, frosting and plenty of edible decorations. Have them make one snack for themselves and one for someone they love.

Art Center Ideas

Thank You Cards

It does not have to be a special holiday for the children to thank their parents or the person who brings them to church each week.

Materials:

  • Thick card stock paper, folded in half
  • Picture of each child
  • Scraps of paper or other decorations
  • Glue

Directions: Have the children make a card thanking the person that brings him or her to church each week. Have them copy a message down in the card such as "Thank you for bringing me to church and teaching me about God." Paste the child’s picture on the inside.

Loved One Hand Puppet

Materials:

Directions: Have the children decide who it is that teaches them about Jesus. Use the printout of the face to make a hand puppet of their loved one. Let the children create their very own puppet by coloring and embellishing the paper bag.

Suggested Prayer

Dear Lord, thank you for giving me family and friends that teach me about God. Amen.
