When attending church you may notice that there are several families that attend regularly as well as visitors to your church. While you can never keep track of everyone, God knows who attends his church and He also knows that everyone is there to serve him and in order to do that, people expect lessons to help them study and become better Christians. Children can learn at any age if they are taught something that is age appropriate. Advantages and Disadvantages of a Youth Ministry Service
There may be advantages and disadvantages to starting a youth ministry worship service, so you need to weigh the options before you start one. The disadvantage of a youth ministry worship service is if you have several different age groups there you may find that the younger ones distract the older ones. Also, some parents like to have their children attend a service with them as a family, instead of breaking kids from adults. A youth ministry worship service should probably be optional for kids to attend.
The advantage is that everyone has the opportunity to learn. As you grow you may be able to offer a class for each age group. It does give children the opportunity to learn the Bible and biblical concepts on their own level, so it is becoming a more and more popular thing for churches to offer kid-directed service. What Can Children Learn?
Depending on which program you would like to try with the children at church, you will need a few volunteers in order to make the youth ministry a success. If you want to purchase material from a Christian bookstore or an online Christian store you will need to decide beforehand how much you can spend for your youth ministry supplies. Although learning is important you can also make learning fun by being creative with your lessons.
Allow yourself plenty of time to study your lessons and prepare for your activities. Run announcements two weeks in advance as well as advertising them in the local newspaper. When it comes time to set up your class, make sure you have other members of the church to help you. You may be surprised at how many children are interested in the youth ministry program. Teaching them about God through lessons that they can understand is a great way to help children grow in the church. Even if you don't think a child is paying attention, they do listen and hear you so don't get discouraged if you are talking over children. A Schedule for Youth Ministry Worship Service
This schedule is for a one-hour class. This is only an example, and you may need to adjust your time accordingly.
- Ten minutes: Greet the children, sit down, take attendance, go over birthdays.
- Five minutes: Review last week's bible verse.
- Ten minutes: Prayer and devotions. Use this time to read a memory verse and practice memorizing.
- Five minutes: Discuss any order of business you may have. If your group will be performing a play or singing you may want to discuss your plans.
- Fifteen minutes: Read and go over the lesson. Discuss your lesson.
- Ten minutes: Use this time to do worksheets, coloring, crafts and more.
- Five minutes: Put away supplies, close with prayer and dismiss.
